The acceleration of Cloud adoption
Since the global pandemic struck in early 2020, most CIO’s have reported a drastic acceleration in the speed of their Cloud Journey as adaptability and flexibility became vital to the continued operations of many companies. As can be seen from the below graphic from Gartner, most organizations were already on their journey, but the extent to which the gas pedal was pressed is quite striking when seen in graphical form – especially relative to on-prem spend. Spending on the Cloud will surpass $600 Billion in 2023 according to a Gartner study.
The Challenges Associated with this New Normal
With this accelerated move to the cloud, it is quite understandable that in many cases speed was prioritised over optimisation. On reading Flexera’s State of the Cloud report for 2022 some the challenges involved in this new mass adoption of Cloud really jumps off the page.
It has been self-estimated that 32% of Cloud spend is wasted. Note the term “self-estimated”. The real number is probably significantly higher. Also of note is the fact that this percentage is incrementing year-on-year.
Another study has suggested that up to 70% of companies believe that they are spending too much on Cloud. Again interesting to note the word “believe” here.
Taking both of these findings together we can say that up to a third of companies OPEX spend on technology is ideally suited for optimisation.
Companies realise this, yet are not taking steps to remedy this seemingly. Why not?
Complexity
The rapidity of the journey to the Cloud has exposed a number of gaps that are difficult to fill. Mainly these gaps revolve around availability of resources as well as getting resources with the right expertise to correct the inefficiencies that have arisen in many organisations.
Resources are operating at capacity with migrating to the cloud or day-to-day administration of Cloud Operations. In many cases a gradual drift away from best practice is inevitable.
Secondly and this is something that is not widely understood is that what is generic best practice from the perspective of your Cloud Provider may need to be tailored to the needs of the individual organisation. This can lead to issues of over-provisioning of resources in some instances through no fault of either the Cloud Provider or the Cloud team.
We can fill the gaps as outlined above. Our team of Cloud Architects have the experience and knowledge to assess your environment and come up with a report outlining concrete steps to reduce your OPEX in the Cloud.
When you engage us, you will not be engaging a recent graduate who is still learning their trade. You will be engaging a professional with at least a decade of experience in public Cloud.
How does aDataTribe fit in?
We are also agnostic as to which Cloud Provider you use. We are a true Multi-Cloud partner.
Most environments suffer from a significant lack of Optimisation. The graphic below shows some of the areas where our high-level assessment can pick off low hanging fruit in terms of optimising your environment
Deep-Dive Assessment
As an additional value-add, we can also go beyond a simple assessment and provide a bespoke service offering which will provide long-term cost savings in the Cloud. We can implement the changes for you. We can provide a framework for providing automated, policy-based practices in how you use the cloud to avoid gradual emergence of inefficiencies. We can configure long-term strategies around tagging, reporting & automation to maintain standards.
If you feel you are part of the 70% of companies with significant savings to be made in your Cloud spend, we would be happy to hear from you.
